The French Oral Exam

Home / The French Oral Exam

Your French Leaving Cert oral exam will take place in the form of a 12 min conversation with the examiner, you have the option to bring in a ‘document’ of your choice as part of the exam.

Here are a few tips I share for your French Leaving Cert oral exam:

What will you be asked about?

The conversation covers topics you know well — you will be asked about:

  • yourself
  • your family
  • your school
  • where you live
  • your hobbies
  • friends
  • holidays
  • career plans

You may also be asked about current affairs, for example L’environnement or Les Reseaux Sociaux . Have a few prepared opinions ready so you are never caught out.

Tenses

You will be tested with questions in the past, present and future tenses, as well as the conditional — for example « Que feriez-vous si …? »
